Novel Films Blogfest

Thanks to the lovely and talented Madeleine of Scribble And Edit for hosting this fun blogfest.

Today, I'm going to list the novels that I have also seen as films, and tomorrow I'll be back to tell you if any of these films lived up to their original written form.

The name of the novel is listed first and if the film's name is different, I've listed that as well.

  1. Angels And Demons by Dan Brown
  2. The DaVinci Code by Dan Brown
  3. The Twilight Series by Stephanie Meyer
  4. The Mist by Stephen King
  5. Bridge To Terabithia by Katherine Paterson
  6. Charlotte's Web by E.B. White
  7. The Cider House Rules by John Irving
  8. Diary Of A Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney
  9. How The Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr, Seuss
  10. Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates
  11. My Sister's Keeper by Jodi Picoult
  12. The Princess Bride by William Goldman
  13. Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane
  14. "Cycle Of The Werewolf" by Stephen King / Silver Bullet
  15. Silas Marner by George Eliot / A Simple Twist Of Fate
  16. "The Body" by Stephen King / Stand By Me
  17. The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
  18. To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee
  19. "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption" by Stephen King / The Shawshank Redemption
  20. Watchers by Dean Koontz

I'm sure there are some I've forgotten about. Perhaps one of you will jog my memory as I visit the other participating blogs. And I'll admit, as a tease, a few of these films were as good as or better than the book in my opinion.  Can you guess which ones?

If you haven't entered my Blogoversary Baker's Dozen Giveaway, you have precious little time left.

See you tomorrow!

Fantastic list! I've always wanted to read Shawshank Redemption... such a great film!

Your list reminded me that I'd forgotten to add The Da Vinci Code, which I wasn't a huge fan of but which I have read and seen, so it counts.

Love a lot of these on your list, but I have yet to either see or read them. What I've seen of Dean Koontz adaptations tells me someone either needs to get a clue, or they need to just give up trying to make anything good from his books (which I love).

Ah! How could I have forgotten How The Grinch Stole Christmas?

Great list. I've seen The Cider House Rules, and I really must read the book.

@Kitty Yes the story is wonderful.

@PK I just read it this past week gearing up for the blogfest.

@Trisha I agree about the Koontz adaptations. Most have been horrible.

That list would be way too long for me to remember. Do the comic book ones count if you read the comics?

I started making a list and by checking Goodreads I got it up to 43 so far. Though a couple like "Dracula" and "Alice in Wonderland" the movie adaptation really isn't all that faithful to the book.

I have no idea . . . I've only seen a few from this list!

Until this blogfest, I hadn't known there were so many movies made of books by Stephen King; I thought there were just one or two. :P

Hi,

Have to admit there's a lot here I've neither read nor watched the movie! Ha ha, good list, though. ;)

This is a cool post. I've often seen the movie and not read the book in a lot of these examples. I didn't even know Twilight was a book until the movie came out! Left the theater and ran right to the bookstore to buy it...lol...I'm looking forward to your followup post when you compare movie and book.

Your site is so interesting, I've become a new follower. Love the design of it. I'm so glad you paid me a visit today :-)

I've wanted to see Shutter Island, but haven't yet.

I love To Kill A Mockingbird too much to see the movie.

I've both read and watched the Princess Bride, and I thought the movie was better, so I'm guessing that you thought so too.

If you get a chance, check out a fellow writer's zombie story and help me make him wear an embarrassing shirt next year! It's the ultimate grudge match between social media and the zombies. Details are here:

@Tony I almost forgot it. My kids reminded me.

@RM 43 is impressive. There are still two days left in the fest you know ; )

@Golden Eagle Can you tell I'm a bit of a Stephen King fangirl?

@Francine I feel the same way after visiting the few blogs I have so far!

@June G Thanks so much. That's sweet of you.

@M Pax Leo was brilliant but I still thought the book was better.

@Tonja It's one of my favorite books too, but the movie is a classic too.

@kelworthfiles You are very wise. I'll check out the zombie story.

You have some awesome reads and films on that list!

I forgot To Kill A Mockingbird and The Princess Bride on my list. I love The Shawshank Redemption in film form, so I probably should read the short story, too.
Nice list!

Read a couple of these and seen a few more. Seems like a decent list though. I'll check the next installment.
