The Oxford Dictionary of English has added a new list of words to its pages. My ten favorites are listed below. You can view the entire list here:
- BROMANCE - a close but non-sexual relationship between two men
- HATER - negative person
- DEFRIEND - another term for unfriend (remove someone from a list of friends or contacts on a social networking site)
- STEAMPUNK - a genre of science fiction that typically features steam-powered machinery rather than advance technology
- FRENEMY - a person with whom one is friendly despite a fundamental dislike or rivalry
- DICTIONARY ATTACK - an attempt to gain illicit access to a computer system by using a very large set of words to generate potential passwords
- BUZZKILL - a person or thing that has a depressing or dispiriting effect
- MICROBLOGGING - the posting of very short entries on a blog
- FREEMIUM - a business model, especially on the Internet, whereby basic services are provided free of charge while more advanced features must be paid for
- EXIT STRATEGY - a pre-planned means of extricating oneself from a situation
What words would you like to see added to the dictionary?

I don't know what I'd add, but I love "Bromance." I hadn't heard that one before and it made me smile.
I'd never heard of "dictionary attack." It's always interesting to see what new words get added.
Anyway, this is my first time here. I signed up for Rachel Harrie's platform building crusade. It's great finding new blogs! Well, nice to meet you. I look forward to following.
eew bromance and frenemy are just plain ugly sounding words. I've heard the word "man crush" for bromance, which has a better sound but the meaning can be misconstrued. I like the word hater, as it is so versatile. I've used it myself many times. Reminds me of the bumper sticker that was popular a decade ago "mean people suck." This was an interesting post for a word junkie like myself :)
Do you think if we all got together we could make a completely made up word get into the dictionary? Like if enough people start using "Woozle wuzzle" instead of hello can we get that into the dictionary?
Julie, bromance is one of my favorites.
Quinn, thanks for stopping by. Can't wait to check out your blog.
Karen, glad I'm not the only word junkie out there.
RM, LOL! Let's try. I like woozle wuzzle, reminds me of Dr. Seuss.
I would LOVE to be able to reference ASSHAT and have it be a logical, actual word, lol.
Candace, I KNOW, right?
