You Say You Got A Resolution

OK, so it's not quite the famous Beatles' lyric, but close enough.

Mid-December I felt like this,

But after a minor health crisis that thankfully turned out to be not as bad as my paranoid brain had thought, trying to convince anyone who would listen that I was indeed dying right before their eyes, I reconsidered the dreaded New Year Resolution.

Truth be told, I'm not very good at keeping them. I kicked cigarettes cold turkey twelve years ago, but that's the only one I can recall as having any inkling of success. Last year I resolved to drink more, and although the desire was there, I couldn't even manage that.

Now it seems this baby weight (hey, I don't care how old they are, I can still use it as long as they're not with me) needs to go, so I'm jumping in with both feet and getting healthy. Please tell me I'm not alone. I've talked people down from a bag of Hershey's Kisses before (myself included) and I'd love the company.

I'm also planning on writing and submitting more this year and reading at least fifty books, but things you enjoy, the easy things, aren't really resolutions now are they?

So tell me, do you have one resolution you plan to make your bitch tackle this year? Ten? Fifty?

Well, I started my new weight loss program before New Year's so now I just have to stick with it. I don't make resolutions. The minute I do, my brain wrestles with me to break them. Now that you mention it, a bag of Hershey's Kisses sounds so good right about now. LOL :D

I decided not to make specific resolutions this year -

Because so much of what I usually accomplish doesn't start out on any list (surprise!) and a lot of what I put on a list ends up not happening.

And I struggle with feeling like a failure enough already.

But I AM actually trying to accomplish "some stuff" - like you - with regards to writing. They're not goals. Just "stuff" I hope happens. After a lot of hard work.

I hate setting myself up for failure!

Can you tell?

My resolution is to not give up when I have a set back.
Glad to see someone else refer to their baby weight even though their kids aren't babies anymore.

I also am resolving to loose weight this year AND to write more. I can't even call it baby weight as I have none yet. You are definitely not alone!

Good luck on your resolutions! (quitting cold turkey!? That is a huge accomplishment you should be proud of! I say worth a few(12) new years off from resolutions-keeping anyway ;)

well I do have some plans that should lead to weight loss but I have no resolutions this year like always.

I try not to make resolutions, just set goals. Mine are to write two books this year and to read more than 60 books (which is what I read last year).

Off to a good start on the book. Already devoured 4, and moving onto the fifth.

Good luck with yours, and you have an award waiting for you at my blog.

I did pledge to read at least 50 books, but my main focus will be on writing and editing this year. Hopefully, I will have something ready to submit.

Glad to see so many of you are in the same sitch. I hate being alone.

And Jodi, thanks for the award!

I made some major attainable. You know I one upped what I did last year. Write 3 mss, get more involved in supporting other writers, and ... drop the 30 lbs I gained while writing all the time. I joined this livestrong.com website and have been accounting for all the food I've been eating. Loss 5lbs in 2 weeks by cutting out meet for 9 days and counting calories. Haven't started exercising yet - but it's coming. I signed up for a 5 K with my daughter. She won't let me live that down. Here's to a new year of possibilities.

I'm with you all the way. I'm back at the gym, got a personal trainer, got a physio to tackle the injury that's made exercise so hard, eating healthier -- and in theory, querying by Easter, though we'll see how that last part goes!

There are a lot of resolutions I should make, but I'm not a big believer in that. Just shut up and do it or not, that's how I roll.

I am TOTALLY with you on the 'lose weight/get fit' thing. I had a couple rough days this week, andt could TOTALLY use the cheering to get back to it. So I am HAPPY to join cheering you back. I am following weight watchers (mostly) and trying to be regular with power walking...

My writing goals are even more specific. I REALLY want to polish 3 of my past works this year and make a shot with ALL of them (somethings gotta take, eh?)

I plan on finishing a few of my manuscripts. Get internet at home. Read 100 books, and what ever else comes my way. Best wishes on yours. Thanks for the post.

LM, that 5K with your daughter sounds like an awesome goal. Bonding is always better with sweat.

RM, I've always liked how you roll.

Hart, We'll have to discuss this power walking. I'm always looking for ways to spice up the exercise routine.

Regina, I don't think I could do 100 books, even if someone paid me. Well...perhaps with pay. Good luck on reaching your goals this year.

I didn't make any, just because I know I am SO TERRIBLE at them. Heh. But I do have the "goal" of getting a manuscript submission-ready and actually submitting it. So yay!

Good luck with your resolution(s) :)

Steph, I can relate. Good luck with that submission!
